Over 360 development projects within Education, Agriculture, the Fight against HIV, TB and Malaria, Water & Sanitation, Community Development, Environmental Issues and Economic Development reach 12 million people, engage 200,000 community volunteers and provide employment for 9,000 people.
In China HPP works since 2005 through and with the Poverty Alleviation, Health and Education systems and is currently working with 12 projects in 3 provinces of China (Yunnan, Sichuan, Chongqing) within the sectors of Agriculture, Sustainable Rural Development, Health, Nutrition, Education and Leadership Training.
It is the goal of HPP China to provide high-quality mixed class preschool education for children in remote rural communities where access to preschool education is limited in order to create an opportunity for poor children to break free from the cycle of poverty.
The formative years of a child’s life – from birth to the age of seven years – are extremely vital for developing learning abilities, reasoning skills and social skills that will stick with the child for the rest of his or her life.
The ‘Preschools of the Future’ (‘POF’) project trains the teachers, creates the curriculum, designs activities for the running of the schools, and guides the Parents’ Committees through training in early childhood development, nutrition, sanitation, and health.
Position Summary:
The Preschool Education Program developer will provide pedagogical support to HPP’s ‘Preschools of the Future ’ program both in the areas of rural Early Childhood Education and the relevant training of preschool teachers. The program developer will :
• Provide pedagogical expertise
• Research early childhood learning methods
• Develop curriculum – both for the community preschools and the teacher training
• Improve instruction methods
• Establish partnerships with government, social organizations and communities
• Keep up to date with policy developments, research, guidelines etc. that are relevant to ECE programming in South West China and share these knowledge and experience with others (technical support staff, program units’ staff, partners etc.).
The Overall Goals
The overall goal of the position is to contribute to the qualitative development of the preschool education sector of HPP and increase the teaching capacity of the about 100 community preschool teachers (most of them rural villagers with 9 year compulsory education).
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
• Programming of monthly trainings for HPP’s lay preschool teachers
• Programming of initial trainings for HPP’s new Preschool teachers
• Transform some of HPP’s internationally developed preschool materials into useful materials adapted to the Chinese context
• Make trainings for preschool teachers in nationally standards on ECE
• Collect examples of best practice internally in HPP and create a platform for sharing both internally and externally
• Connect with experts in the field of ECE and arrange how to use their expertise within our Preschools
