Program Manager, International Education
Job Duties
Under the general direction of the Director of International, manage multiple projects from development to implementation. Collaborate with the Chair of Pediatrics, Chief Administrative Officer of UCLA Mattel Children’s Hospital, Mattel Inc. Global Health team, UCLA Center for World Health, UCLA Extension, International Development Consultants, internal and external stakeholders to ensure that selected projects are aligned with the health system’s overall strategic goals as well as Mattel’s global health initiatives.
STRATEGY
Support efforts of International Development Consultants and International Director to increase UCLA Health and Mattel brand awareness globally and domestically.
Provide project management of and implement initiatives developed with global partners.
Adheres to international plan and monitors and reports progress toward milestones as well as any barriers to success
EDUCATION & TRAINING PROGRAM
Develop standard course curriculum, customizable to meet each client’s needs.
Possible instructors and speakers for workshops; coordinate schedules with possible courses.
Identify possible housing options for participants. Negotiate rates and housing arrangements.
Identify and organize activities of cultural, historical and/or academic interest to participants.
Identify transportation options, negotiate rates and arrange for transportation as needed.
Develop informational and program materials.
Oversight of international Observership Program.
MATTEL GLOBAL HEALTH
Identify key faculty and staff who can and will participate in Mattel Global Health activities.
Create project plans for new partnerships.
Create systems and metrics to measure success of each country-wide project.
Monitor Mattel Global Health funding/budget.
Serve as main point of contact between identified sites and UCLA for Mattel Global Health initiative.
Monitor if/when agreements are due for renewal, if applicable.
OTHER
Respond to requests for various delegations to visit UCLA.
Determine value and interest of each group/request
Assess level/profile of delegation and determine if campus notification is required (based on UCLA Policy re: visiting dignitaries)
Identify appropriate staff/faculty to meet with group
Create itinerary or agenda based on interest of visitors
Serve as “host”/point of contact for children’s health related activities taking place at UCLA
Provide tour of hospital areas of interest to visitors
Follow up on any items that result from visit and discussions
Refer request to other departments, such as International Nurse Center, Center for World Health, Volunteer Services, UCLA Visitor Center, etc. as appropriate.
Identify opportunities to enhance and maintain relationships with local international groups and multinational organizations.
Identify and organize events that might be of interest to local consulate officers, diplomats, their families and staff and that would enhance and increase awareness of UCLA Health services and programs.
Participate in consulate offices events and meetings.
Work with Corporate Marketing Outreach to network with multinational organizations.
Assist International Director with development of new program proposals and analysis
Develop business plans and analyze performance of potential endeavors related to incoming international patients
Job Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree required. Master’s Degree preferred ( MHA, MBA, or equivalent)
Experience working in international healthcare operations, strategy, and program development preferred
Two years of experience with increasing responsibility in a healthcare setting
Bilingual Mandarin and English required.
Approximately 30 percent travel required.
Thorough understanding of elements of health care delivery including strategy, business planning, operations, accreditation standards and financial conditions
Strong ability to work collaboratively with medical staff and leadership
Consistently interacts with all members of the organization in ways that enhance understanding, respect, cooperation and problem solving
Recognizes the need for change; adapts to, and causes others to adapt to values, strategies, goals and plans in response to changing business conditions
Understands the approaches and methods of process improvement, including planning, setting priorities, systematic performance assessment, implementation based on such assessment, and maintaining achieved improvement
Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective relations with the medical staff and management team to foster and promote the goals of the UCLA Health System
Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with external clients and partners
