The US-China Education Trust (www.uscet.org) is a Washington, DC-based non-profit organization with a well-established reputation both in China and the US, whose mission is to promote US-China relations through education and exchange for next generation leaders. This position is USCET’s lead manager for grants, programs and outreach, playing a central role in the organization’s development, administration, and evaluation of its programming.

Overview

Job Description

USCET’s programming focuses on strengthening American Studies and Media Education in China, as well as education and exchange programs. USCET activities are held in China and the United States, working with over 70 Chinese universities, as well as Chinese and American institutions and policymakers. USCET also sponsors a range of scholarship programs primarily for disadvantaged Chinese students.

The Program Manager works director with the founding president of USCET. Primary responsibilities of USCET’s Program Manager are as follows:

 

Program Management/Implementation

  • Manage all USCET grants, programs, fellowships, and exchanges under the direction of the president.
  • Supervise and work closely with USCET’s Program Associate and interns to implement China- and US-based programs.
  • Coordinate and support program initiatives of USCET’s Development and New Initiatives Principal and contractors
  • Maintain communications and outreach related to all program activities with USCET’s partners in the US and China.
  • Lead USCET program evaluation, working with partners and vendors to conduct evaluations.

Grant Management

  • Manage grant funds and program budgets, direct allocation of expenditures, and ensure compliance with all terms of grants, working with USCET comptroller.
  • Undertake timely preparation of grant progress reports, including financial reporting, for USCET donors.

Development/Outreach

  • Work in support of USCET’s president to develop new programs by researching new grant and program opportunities and preparing drafts of new proposals, as appropriate.
  • Track relevant news and events in China, particularly related to American Studies and the media.
  • Manage the implementation of USCET’s outreach strategy through maintenance of USCET’s website, preparation of USCET news updates, etc.
  • Work with USCET’s president to organize and design USCET events.

General Management

  • Work with comptroller to support development and management of organizational budget and financial affairs. Direct USCET’s recruitment of high-quality interns, developing and administering processes to ensure adequate intern staffing year-round.

Qualifications Candidates should possess the following capabilities, skills and experience:

  • Self-motivated, organized, detail-oriented, and able to work independently.
  • Excellent writing and critical thinking skills.
  • Experience in grants management, including understanding of US government grants procedures and accountability preferred; project and budget management experience required.
  • Native fluency in English; basic speaking and reading Chinese language skills required; fluency in Chinese language a plus.
  • Experience working/studying in China and general knowledge about China required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Quickbooks, and willingness to learn additional software packages as needed.
  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) with at least five years relevant professional experience.
  • Permanent authorization to work full-time in the US required.
