The Communication and Outreach Division (COD) is mainly responsible for carrying out the organization’s institutional communication activities, as well as programs and activities under APFNet’s pillars on policy dialogue and information sharing. Policy dialogue programs include the Meeting Mechanism of APEC Ministers in forestry, Meeting Mechanism of Greater Central Asian Ministers in Forestry and the Asia-Pacific Forestry Planning Network.

We are currently seeking a highly-motivated Program Officer to join COD to support policy dialogue and outreach programs. The candidate will gain insight and experience on international relations and policy development in the Asia- Pacific forestry sector.

Job Description

The Asia-Pacific Network for Sustainable Forest Management and Rehabilitation (APFNet) is a non-profit international organization, dedicated to advancing sustainable forest management and rehabilitation in the Asia-Pacific region. Proposed by China and co-sponsored by Australia and the United States, the creation of APFNet was agreed during the 2007 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders’ Meeting in Sydney, and the organization was officially launched in 2008. APFNet operates on four activity pillars: policy dialogue, demonstration projects, capacity building and information sharing.

 

The responsibilities of the candidate include:

       Supporting the Policy Dialogue Coordinator and COD Program Manager in the management of policy dialogue programs – this includes coordination with stakeholders, technical reporting, event management and communications;

       Supporting on knowledge sharing projects and publications under policy dialogue programs;

       Supporting the Partnerships Coordinator in APFNet outreach activities, including high-level visits and events;

       Organizational support of project events (workshops, meetings, trainings, etc.); and

       Other duties as assigned by the COD Director.

 

Prospective candidates require:

       Undergraduate degree preferably in environmental studies, international development or other field related to environmental management;

       Native English speaker (ideal), spoken and written Chinese language skills preferred;

       Excellent English writing skills, strong ability to analyze and summarize information;

       Experience in project management and communications is strongly preferred;

       Team player with self-management and organizational skills;

       Strong attention to detail; and

       Excellent proficiency in Microsoft Office programs.
