Job Description
The Stanley Center for Psychiatric Research at the Broad Institute of Harvard and MIT is looking for a Project Coordinator to join the Stanley Global team. This individual will be part of a dynamic multi-disciplinary effort to exploit the most advanced technologies for human genetic analysis to understand psychiatric disease mechanisms, identify potential biomarkers, and ignite needed progress in therapeutics. The Stanley Center is organized into intellectually porous teams based on principal disciplinary areas of focus including: Genetics, Cellular Models, Neurobiology and Animal models, Technology development and Genome-scale neurobiology, and Therapeutics.
We are undergoing a rapid phase of growth and this is a unique opportunity to help shape an organization that is at the forefront of research in severe mental illnesses.The position overall will afford an opportunity to gain experience with aspects of project coordination in a high throughput technical environment for a bright, logically minded, ambitious candidate at the earlier stages of their career. The ideal candidate will be highly collaborative and will work well in a team. The candidate must be detail oriented, enjoy working with computerized systems for recording the status of workflows, and be capable of thinking logically about research processes. The candidate should have a background in clinical research and be comfortable entering data into databases.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES
- The individual in this role will provide communication, administrative, project management, and operational support, initially with a focus on Asian collaborations, with future expansion to other projects within the Stanley Center Global Initiatives.
- Manage collaborations: In coordination with Stanley Center Principal Investigators and Project Management team, serve as liaison between Chinese and Asian collaborators.
- Arrange and plan visits between Stanley Center team and Asian Collaborators.
- Organize regular and ad hoc communications with collaborators in China and other Asian countries.
- Record and distribute notes and summaries from meetings and conference calls.
- Travel as necessary to China and other countries typically twice each year.
- Able to work occasional evenings to accommodate time zone differences Translate documents between English and Chinese. (Mandarin)
- Report/Publications as needed Support administrative paperwork related to Chinese collaborations.
- Establish close relationships with key collaborators and platform staff to enhance knowledge flow and data distribution.
- Support team in preparation of Annual Report sections & Annual Symposium Program.
- Track the receipt, processing and storage of biological samples.
- Manage the generation, analysis and reporting of genomic data.
- Assist with data processing and data transfer.
- Assist with the submission of IRB documentation, material transfer agreements and data access agreements, dbGAP submissions and other required documentation.
- Generate quotes and purchase orders to initiate platform activities and projects.
- Works with PI, PM team and the Administration time to set agendas for effective and efficient team meetings, serving as facilitator to ensure that meetings are productive and result in clear and concise action items.
- Help edit and contribute content to Stanley Center newsletter.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree 1+ years of administrative or project coordinator experience, preferably in academic or research environment.
- Excellent writing skills; able to compose clear, concise and professional material in both English and Chinese (Mandarin) and the ability to interact with multidisciplinary staff and collaborators.
- Strong work ethic and willingness to take ownership for wide-ranging responsibilities.
- Accuracy and attention to detail in all aspects of work.
- Strong skills with Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and must be comfortable learning new software and technology.
- Experience with Google Drive suite preferred.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, flexibility to accommodate different situations and requirements.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, fluid and challenging environment.
- Knowledge of the Chinese culture and language is required; in country experience in China is preferred.
- Experience in research compliance preferred.
- Comfortable learning new software and technology.
