Research and Social Media Intern

The Institute for China-America Studies seeks a research and social media intern to assist with the management of our online presence and provide basic research support. The start date of the internship is negotiable, but as we will need assistance for our Annual Conference on April 25 – April 26, applicants who can start on Monday, April 18, will be highly preferred. The internship will conclude on Friday, August 23, 2019. However, depending on the needs of the organization and availability of the applicant, this will be a full time, 40 hour per week, or part time, 20 hour per week, internship.

Candidate Profile

Competitive candidates will be in the process of completing, or hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in communications, journalism, marketing or a related field. Candidates who have an interest and understanding in U.S.-China relations are preferred. Native fluency in English is a must. Ability to speak Mandarin is a plus, but not required. Knowledge of ArcGIS or other mapping and analytics platforms is also desirable, but not required.

Qualifications and required skills:

  • Experience using third party social media tools such as Hootsuite.
  • Professional knowledge of Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube.
  • Ability to provide basic research support to scholars.
  • Keen attention to detail when proofreading, copy editing and fact-checking.
  • Photoshop, and web-based social media analytical tools.

Duties will include the following, but are not limited to:

  • Maintain and assist with the development of ICAS’s social media presence.
  • Promote our experts and research products using social media.
  • Assist with the publication of ICAS research products, including the ICAS Bulletin.
  • Identify and maintain relationships with media personalities and area experts and NGOs on social media.
  • Draft targeted messaging based on content, platform and trending tags.
  • Assistance with event planning and setup, such as ICAS’ Annual Conference on April 25th and 26th.

We offer a small stipend at the conclusion of the internship, and selected candidates will have access to our scholars and network. We offer all our research interns the opportunity to co-author with our scholars and encourage solo publication. We also offer our interns the opportunity to publish a commentary in the ICAS Bulletin on relevant topics.

Instead, consider telling us a story that highlights your experiences, and details what exactly makes you the best fit for the task.
