The Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) is a non-profit, bipartisan public policy organization established in 1962 to provide strategic insights and practical policy solutions to decision makers concerned with global security and prosperity.  Over the years, it has grown to be one of the largest organizations of its kind, with a staff of some 200 employees, including more than 120 analysts working to address the changing dynamics of international security across the globe.

 

 

JOB SUMMARY:

 

 

CSIS seeks an intern to support the China Power Project. The China Power Project is currently developing a microsite that will decipher the complexity of Chinese power by exploring concepts of power along a number of different parameters. The site will serve as a resource for students, experts, and policy makers by providing interactive infographics designed to generate new ideas about how to better understand China. Key research areas include: international trade, economics, and qualitative and quantitative analysis. Because of the fast paced work environment, interns should be motivated self-starters that enjoy a wide variety of analytic and logistical task work.

 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Essential functions may include, but are not limited to the following:

 

 

  • Assisting with the development a new microsite on Chinese power by monitoring issues concerning: military, economic, social, and cultural power.
  • Collecting, analyzing, and manipulating large datasets.
  • Researching and writing on issues related to Chinese power.
  • Proofreading and editing content.
  • Maintaining and updating program data.
  • Assisting in event planning and staffing.
Required Experience

KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE:

 

 

  • Must hold bachelor’s degree or higher (MA preferred).
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Excel/Google Sheets.
  • Demonstrated interest and knowledge of issues concerning Chinese power.
  • Must have at least a 3.0 GPA (on a 4.0 scale) from an accredited U.S. institution or equivalent from a non-U.S. institution
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Superb writing and editing skills
  • Experience with quantitative and qualitative analysis.
  • Ability to work independently.

 

 

Strongly preferred qualifications:

 

 

  • Familiarity with website development and/or content management systems.
  • Experience with STATA, R, SPSS and other statistics software
  • Practical and/or academic background in political economy, international trade and/or finance, and economic policy preferred.
  • Familiarity with SQL databases.
  • Experience working with data visualization or business intelligence software.
