Internship Overview

This spring internship, beginning in January 2016, is a paid opportunity for undergraduate students in their junior year or senior year, recent college graduates or graduate students with an interest in China to apply principles and theory learned in the classroom in a professional
environment.

 

This internship pays an hourly rate of $10.50, and applicants must be willing to commit to a minimum number of hours per week (no less than 20 hours per week,during regular business hours), with some flexibility around an academic course schedule. The internship is based in Washington, DC and will last approximately 10 weeks.

 

Primary Responsibilities

·         Assisting in center research programs

·         Compiling, editing, and proofreading interviews, speeches, and published articles of center’s scholars

·         Collecting and organizing data and information in both Chinese and English as needed

·         Arranging all research relevant documents, reports and publications

·         Assisting in the logistical planning and implementation of conferences, roundtables,
briefings, and other meetings, attending foreign policy events, and general
administrative support

·         Additional assignments will also include assisting the center’s scholars on research  tasks on an as needed basis

·         Possibility of attending internal presentations, professional development workshops, and
public Brookings events as well as participate on Brookings sports teams and
network with other interns throughout the Institution

 

Education/Skills/Experience

·         Graduate or undergraduate student (who has completed their sophomore year) working
towards a degree in a relevant field (i.e. international relations, China studies, etc.).  Recent college graduates are also eligible to apply.

·         Qualified applicants will have a demonstrated interest in one or more of the following
areas: Chinese political, social and economic issues and U.S. foreign policy in
the region.

·         Previous editing and proofreading experience is required and demonstrated strong
research skills are preferred. Additionally, native fluency of English is
required and Mandarin Chinese language skills are desirable.
