Purpose of Position: The Senior Outreach & Selection Officer is responsible for creating and implementing a student outreach plan targeting fellowship advisors, faculty and senior university administrators, prospective applicants, and other key stakeholders in the United States and Canada. S/He will also be responsible for managing selection activities in region, including identifying selection committee members; planning and moderating external committees; overseeing finalist identification, supervising a program officer, and reporting to the Project Lead on selection outcomes. Cultivating strategic relationships, convincingly and professionally representing the fellowship opportunity, implementing high level outreach events and activities, and managing thorough and transparent selection processes are central to this position. This position will work as part of a global team, with central coordination and leadership from a New York-based Project Lead.

Program Summary: The Schwarzman Scholars program is a new, prestigious fellowship program that will enable students to pursue a one-year Master’s Degree at Tsinghua University in Beijing, China. This program will provide unparalleled opportunities for the world’s best and brightest to engage with new generations of leaders who will be profoundly influenced by the bonds, knowledge and exposure they gain through international study. Scholars chosen for this highly selective program will be given access to a privileged range of cultural and academic experiences, from travel to all corners of China to exchanges with global leaders and mentorship with experts in their chosen discipline. As individuals who want to have a positive impact on the world, Schwarzman Scholars will be selected based on their academic credentials, extracurricular interests and leadership potential.

IIE is partnering with Schwarzman Scholars to develop and implement an international application process as well as student outreach and selection practices for the elite program and will provide administrative and on-the-ground support to connect this unique and highly selective program with potential future leaders around the world.

Job Requirements

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.

  • Conduct outreach activities in region to create awareness of the fellowship opportunity, including establishing and maintaining a functional and well-communicated schedule of regional outreach activities; making presentations to university educators and senior administrators, prospective students, and other relevant stakeholders; attending fairs and conferences; and hosting informational workshops and webinars.
  • Manage the selection process for the region’s applicants, including providing orientation and training to selection committee members, and providing on-site staffing and facilitation for interviews.
  • Manage the region-specific application process, including providing regional expertise on educational systems and credentials as part of the technical review of incoming applications; responding to applicant queries throughout the application process.
  • Supervise a program officer who will also implement student outreach and selection activities in the U.S. and Canada.
  • Participate in regular team meetings with the global program team, including joining conference calls, webinars, and in-person trainings.
  • Provide required data and activity reporting as required.
  • Provide regional insight on design and development of various project components throughout the program lifecycle, including: program outreach; application and selection management; and data capture and reporting.
  • Travel and participate in program events (domestic or international) as assigned (25%-50%)
  • Responsible for complying with applicable contract and sponsor requirements and following all IIE policies and procedures
  • Performs other related duties and functions as assigned.

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree in higher education administration, international education, or related field preferred.
  • Five to seven years of work experience, with at least four years of experience directly related to university admissions, enrollment management and/or administration of fellowship/scholarship programs.
  • International experience. Experience living or working overseas, preferably in an educational or non-profit environment, preferred.
  • Experience in student supervision/grantee management is preferred.

  • Strong knowledge of the higher education landscape and prestigious graduate fellowship opportunities, particularly in the designated world region.
