Reporting to the Executive Director, the Senior Development Officer builds the essential elements of a fundraising department and provides fundraising support to the Executive Director, Director of Health, Director of Education and Senior Program Officer for Arts. The Senior Development Officer participates in all fundraising activities, including grant writing, direct appeals, donor prospecting, social media engagement and special events. Job Description

 

Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage the fundraising plan and calendar, targeted fundraising mailings, and year end appeal in coordination with the Executive Director;
  • Conduct preliminary research on prospective foundation, corporation, and individual donors for direct appeals and grant applications;
  • Identify lapsed donors and develop targeted appeals for reengagement;
  • Oversee Salesforce database and improve the use of data; analyze response rates and donations received by campaign; and maintain foundation, corporation and individual donor files;
  • Fully utilize Network for Good donor platform and consult and advise on social media and internet fundraising;
  • Manage donor appeals by drafting letters and e-mail content, and also creating targeted mailing and e-mail lists;
  • Schedule and coordinate events related to external relations and development, including support of Yale-China’s annual fundraisers.

 

Qualifications

Education and Training:

Minimum two years of fundraising work experience and a bachelor’s degree; or an equivalent combination of experience and education required.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Experience with and in-depth knowledge of trends in philanthropy and social media and the ability to translate this into actionable recommendations;
  • Exceptional writing and grammar skills;
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to pay keen attention to details;
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, office procedures, demands and deadlines;
  • Excellent computer skills with proficiency in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint; database management experience;
  • Excellent judgment, professional demeanor; well‐developed interpersonal skills and the ability to work both independently and as a member of a team;
  • Ability to thrive in a cross‐cultural environment;
  • Candidate must have a valid driver’s license and be willing to use own car.
