International Bridges to Justice (IBJ) is hiring a Technical Program Associate to assist with our rule of law programming. The position would be ideal for recent graduates of Chinese studies (or other relevant disciplines as long as they are fluent in Chinese).

Technical Program Associate (Rule of Law)

International Bridges to Justice (IBJ) supports the continued development of China’s criminal justice system and promotes increased awareness of the rights of accused persons. Working in partnership with government and civil society institutions, IBJ provides practical training, resources and other technical assistance to criminal defense lawyers and other members of criminal justice system. IBJ’s programming focuses specifically on strengthening the capacity of China’s rapidly expanding indigent criminal defense system as well as the quality of the criminal defense bar. IBJ is a non-governmental, non-profit organization with its headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland.

IBJ is currently seeking a candidate for the position of Technical Program Associate (Rule of Law), to be based in IBJ’s office in Beijing. This position is ideal for a recent graduate in Chinese studies or related field with a strong technical background, who would like to gain experience in development, law, international relations, and/or public policy.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assisting with monitoring and evaluation (M&E) of all IBJ China programs through the use of online and traditional M&E methods
  • Using Adobe Pro Presenter (or other software) to construct eLearning modules designed to provide legal education and training to Chinese lawyers in criminal defense matters
  • Optimizing pre-existing materials for handheld mobile devices (App development)
  • Arranging graphics and information in innovative ways to give users an interactive experience
  • Assisting legal program officers in developing and designing content
  • Assisting in the recording of vocals and visuals
  • Editing English language materials as needed and provide translation from Chinese to English
  • Help with other programming as needed, including coordination at live events, rule of law program development, and research

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Chinese studies or other relevant discipline with a strong background in IT/computer science;
  • Experience designing web pages and using online educational program software;
  • Native English speaker with fluent Chinese (ability to occasionally translate is necessary);
  • Familiarity with online learning principles;
  • Innovative, self-starter with excellent judgment and ability to think strategically;
  • Detail-oriented and able to manage multiple tasks on tight deadlines;
  • Able to work on occasional weekends;
  • Positive attitude;
  • Artistic abilities preferred;
  • Experience and interest in criminal defense and/or legal aid strongly preferred;
  • Knowledge of M&E systems strongly preferred;
  • Candidates are responsible for their own visa
