Job Summary:

The Senior Linguist is responsible for developing, managing, and optimizing the user interface language (English) for a proprietary operating system. As a Senior Linguist, you will be the English language owner for several applications, features, interfaces, and devices. You will work closely with a development team to improve user experience, usability, and functionality. You will be looped into the design process for new apps and features, and will be expected to be an integral part of the development process.

 

This is a client-facing role, and you are expected to be become a central part of the client’s mobile app team. Therefore, we are looking for a passionate, dedicated individual who is looking to dive deep into the challenges of a fast-paced working environment.

 

Core Responsibilities:

 Language lead

 

• Review and manage English interface strings

• Update string management system and maintain consistent style guide and usage

• Ultimate responsibility for quality of English interface strings

• Own and oversee process improvement

UI/UX Optimization

• Work with development team, project managers, and team leads to optimize user experience

• Be involved in app and feature development from the vision phase through mockups and implementation

• Collaborate with a local development team

• Participation and knowledge contribution in UX/Design meetings

 

Relationship Management

• Grow into a core team member who speaks with authority on UI/UX and interface language

• Comfortable working with Chinese communication styles and management

• Extremely capable intercultural communicator, sensitive to a variety of contexts and settings

 

Qualifications and Skills

 

• Experience in linguistic testing, functional testing, UI/UX design, and/or app development. Bachelor’s degree in related field

• Native English speaker with strong writing skills and sensitivity to language

• Experience communicating in Chinese in a business setting

• Intercultural sensitivity, and ability to understand and communicate with stakeholders from diverse backgrounds

• Strong sense of ownership and responsibility, willingness to see a project through to the end

• Passionate about team goals, and results oriented

 

Preferred Experience:

 

• Language ability (besides Chinese and English)

• Experience working in a multinational Chinese company

• Previous experience at major tech companies

 

 

This position is based in Shanghai, and will require travel to first tier cities in China including Shenzhen and Beijing.
