Last Wednesday, Cara Bonnington, the Program Director for the University of Pennsylvania’s International Internship Program (IIP), stopped by the Project Pengyou office.

Ms. Bonnington was on a Trans-Asia tour, and had just arrived from a visit to Penn interns in Singapore. This was her first trip to China, and her first time to meet our staff after collaborating remotely for four years! It is thanks to Ms. Bonnington that two of our current summer interns, Connor Fairman and Lilach Brownstein, found work at Project Pengyou. Connor and Lilach are the fourth generation of Penn students placed here through IIP.

IIP is a scholarship program that presents Penn students with the opportunity to gain valuable experience and a global perspective through international summer internships at non-profits and non-governmental organizations.

Every summer about 90 students pack their bags and travel all over the world, from Mexico to India to Singapore and many places in between. Their work spans a variety of fields including healthcare, education, technology, and finance.

We have had an amazing experience working with the IIP interns each and every summer, and we are so grateful for the UPenn Beijing Alumni Chair Loretta Evans for introducing us.

Thanks for checking in, Ms. Bonnington! We hope to see IIP participants (or as we call them “Pennterns”) coming through the Project Pengyou doors for years to come.
