Job Description
The successful candidate will perform work to support research and develop public programs and policies. This candidate will apply the understanding of scientific theory and provide administrative and operational support while working under general supervision. The ideal candidate will be flexible, enthusiastic, a great team player, and exercise independent initiative and judgment. Responsibilities include development of recruitment materials and strategies for enrolling participants. The successful candidate will be fluent in written and spoken English and Chinese (preferably Traditional and Simplified Mandarin) and will be willing and able to travel to Asia (Taiwan, China and Singapore) for 7-10 days 1-2 times a year.
Duties include:
- Communicate, manage, and coordinate research activites with foreign collaborators
- Complete project-related administrative and budgetary responsibilities of a limited scope as needed
- Adapt or work out the details of new, nonstandard procedures, with the supervisor providing only general guidance and suggestions
- Assist in designing experiments, exercising independent initiative and judgment gained from completing a variety of high level assignments, including activities such as defining variables, formulating hypotheses, and selecting subjects, sources of information, or planned and coordinating experimental protocols
- Solve problems, and make decisions which affect the direction of the research and result in independent contributions to the overall project
- Select and apply standard calculations and formulas independently to compile data or process documents
- Assist in collaborations and management acorss three countries in Asia
- Assist in manuscript preparation for research publications and regulatory reports as needed
- Supervise staff or students as needed, including oversight and instruction on techniques, as well as consultation on project work

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Strong communication skills; fluent in spoken and written Mandarin (Chinese) and English; a deep understanding of Asian work style and Asian culture
- Master’s degree in epidemiology or an applicable social science related field with over 5 years of experience or combination of education and experience in an applicable social science strongly preferred

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED):
Bachelor of Arts degree in an applicable social science related field and two years applicable experience, or combination of education and experience in an applicable social science.

- Comprehensive understanding of scientific theory and methods, including epidemiology and biostatistics
- Strong knowledge and computer skills and ability to quickly learn and master computer programs

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:
- Frequently perform desk-based computer tasks, grasp lightly/fine manipulation, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds
- Occasionally stand/walk, sit, use a telephone, writing by hand, and sort/file paperwork or parts
- Rarely twist/bend/stoop/squat, kneel/crawl, rarely reach/work above shoulders, operate foot and/or hand controls

WORKING CONDITIONS:
- May be exposed to blood borne pathogens
